Bow/Stern Thruster Installation

Bow Thruster Installation — Manoeuvre with Confidenc

Docking and manoeuvring in tight spaces is one of the most stressful parts of boating — especially with wind or current working against you. A bow thruster changes that completely, giving you precise control and the confidence to handle your vessel in any situation.

RS Shipwrights carries out professional bow thruster installations on recreational vessels throughout Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, and Port Stephens.

What’s involved in a bow thruster installation:

  • Assessment of your vessel’s bow section and suitable thruster sizing
  • Precise cutting of the tunnel opening through the hull
  • Fitting and glassing in of the thruster tunnel
  • Installation of the thruster unit
  • Full electrical installation including wiring, fuses, and control panel carried out by a qualified marine electrician.
  • Testing and commissioning
  • Gelcoat or paint repair to restore the hull finish around the tunnel opening

Why professional installation matters: A bow thruster involves cutting a hole through your hull — this is not a job for guesswork. Improper installation can lead to water ingress, electrical problems, or a thruster that simply doesn’t perform the way it should. At RS Shipwrights, we have the skills to do this job properly, with a finish that looks like it came from the factory.

Which thruster is right for your boat? There are multiple brands and sizes on the market, and the right choice depends on your vessel’s size, weight, and how you use it. We’re happy to discuss the options with you and help you choose what makes sense for your boat and budget.

If you’ve been thinking about fitting a bow/stern thruster, get in touch — we’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s involved and what it will cost.
