Fibreglass Repairs — Structural Strength, Invisible Results
Fibreglass is tough, but it’s not indestructible. Impacts, osmosis, stress cracks, and delamination all happen — and when they do, getting the repair done properly makes all the difference to both the structural integrity and the appearance of your boat.
At RS Shipwrights, fibreglass repair is one of our core specialities. Ryan and the team handle everything from small cosmetic fixes to major structural repairs, and we won’t stop until the result is something we’re genuinely proud of.
What we repair:
- Impact and collision damage (holes, cracks, crushed panels)
- Osmotic blistering (hull blisters caused by water ingress)
- Stress cracks and crazing
- Delamination and core damage
- Transom repairs and reinforcement
- Keel/rudder repairs
- Any structural fibreglass work, large or small
Our process: Good fibreglass repair is about preparation. We take the time to properly assess the damage, grind back to sound material, build up the repair in the correct layers, and finish to a standard that blends seamlessly with the surrounding hull. No patches, no shortcuts — just solid, lasting repairs.
For cosmetic repairs, we work carefully to match colour and texture so the finished result is as close to invisible as possible.
Why it matters: A poor fibreglass repair might look okay at first, but it can fail structurally, allow water ingress, or look worse over time. Done properly, a fibreglass repair should be virtually undetectable and last the life of the vessel.
